Getting sick is something no one ever wants to experience, it’s scary, for both you and your loved ones. Sickness incapacitates you preventing you from working and making a living, and having a recurring illness is even worse.

This is what Analyn Biglain experienced, the fear of anyone, to find out that she was sick. Analyn is a 42 year old mother of a child with special needs, the child being deaf, and currently separated from her spouse. She was first diagnosed with her recurring illness way back in 2002 when she was still together with her spouse, Analyn experienced weeks of intense coughing partnered with other symptoms that would suggest she had lung problems.

Because of this extreme coughing fit Analyn decided to go to the nearest Barangay Health Clinic to have a check up done, and through the check ups she had with her X-ray results and spit tests she was diagnosed with Tuberculosis. Finding out she had Tuberculosis was very hard and daunting on her, as it would with anybody as treatment is very extensive with months of strict medicine taking regiment that was ordered by the health clinic’s physician.

Thankfully the Health Clinic subsidized her medicine regiment as part of the Barangay’s Tuberculosis initiative, after up to 6 months of daily medicine taking and injections to fight off and kill the TB carrying bacteria in her lungs she was able to recover and recuperate. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with the Tuberculosis disease again back in 2013, but with the support of her previous spouse she decided to take up her treatment with a private hospital under the primary care of a dedicated physician. She was once again put through 6 months of daily medicine regiment that took her back to her road of recovery. Sadly, she was was once again diagnosed with the Tuberculosis disease last year but this time with more complications, she no longer had the support of a spouse and was left to care alone for her child while trying to work at the same time, additionally one of her previous medicines no longer work on her which caused her treatment plan to go from 6 months to 20 months, so she sought the help of her Barangay Health Clinic to receive treatment going for around a dozen capsules and an injection everyday, that was until December of last year where she received severe hearing loss as a side effect of her injections. She is still receiving treatment up until now, but it’s been hard on her because of the circumstances today.

Tuberculosis is a disease that can cause great harm to a person, and anyone can catch this disease, it is important to have yourself checked up on by medical professionals once you experience the symptoms of this illness. Whether you’re young, old, fit, or inactive, you can be affected by this, but with proper diagnosing and early treatment you can recover properly.
